Etymology[edit]

Causative verb derived from Aramaic כֵּשְׁטָּא (kešṭā), alternative form of Aramaic קֵּשְׁתָּא (qeštā, bow). Semantic development from the original meaning “to shoot an arrow” into “to hit the mark” or “to do right, be truthful”. Compare ܩܵܫܹܛ (qāšēṭ, to gain weight) and ܩܵܫܹܬ݂ (qāšēṯ, to shoot an arrow; to bend, to curve). Compare also in Classical Syriac ܩܫܲܛ (to shoot an arrow, qšaṭ).
