From the intensitive stem of Aramaic תָּב (tāḇ, to return, change direction, turn away); cognate to Hebrew שָׁב (sháv, to return, repent), Ugaritic 𐎘𐎁 (ṯb, to return), Arabic ثَابَ (ṯāba, to return, come back), and تَابَ (tāba, to repent).
