Etymology[edit]

From Persian نارگیل (nârgil, coconut palm), from Sanskrit नारिकेल (nārikela, coconut palm); also borrowed into Arabic نَارْجِيل (nārjīl), and Hindi नारिकेल (nārikel). Doublet of ܐܲܪܓܝܼܠܵܐ (argīlā).
