From ܣܘܼܪܵܝܵܐ (surrāyā, Assyrian) +‎ -ܐܝܼܬ݂ (-īṯ, the language suffix). Compare Classical Syriac ܣܘܪܝܐܝܬ (suryāʾīṯ) and Turoyo ܣܘܪܰܝܬ (surayt).
