From Aramaic תְבַר (təḇar), from Proto-Semitic *ṯabar- (to break); compare Hebrew שָׁבַר (shavár), Akkadian 𒊺𒁉𒀸 (šebērum) and Arabic ثَبَرَ (ṯabara, to destroy).
