From Aramaic תַּעֲלָא (taʿălāʾ), from Proto-Semitic *ṯaʕlab-; compare Akkadian 𒈜 (šēlebu), Arabic ثَعْلَب (ṯaʕlab), Hebrew שׁוּעָל (shu'ál), and Ugaritic 𐎘𐎓𐎍𐎁 (ṯʿlb).
