Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘓𑘼𑘝𑘰𑘯𑘜𑘹 (cautāḷaṇe), borrowed from Hindustani چَوْتَال (cavtāl) / चौताल (cautāl), چَوْتَالَا (cavtālā) / चौताला (cautālā),[1] from Sanskrit चतुस्ताल (catustāla). Compare Gujarati ચોતાલ (cotāl), Punjabi ਚੌਤਾਲ (cautāl) / چَوْتال (cautāl), Nepali चौताल (cautāl), Odia ଚଉତାଳ (côutaḷô), ଚଉତାଲା (côutala), Bengali চৌতাল (cōutal), চৌতালা (cōutala).
