Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘓𑘹𑘢𑘜𑘹 (cepaṇe), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *cipp-. Cognate with Gujarati ચીપવું (cīpvũ), Sindhi چِپَڻُ / चिपणु (cipaṇu), Odia ଚିପିବା (cipiba), Bengali চিপা (cipa), Assamese চেপা (sepa).
