Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘖𑘻𑘚𑘜𑘹 (jhoḍaṇe, to batter; to whack), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀛𑁄𑀟𑀇 (jhoḍaï, makes leaves fall off a tree) (compare Sanskrit छोटयति (choṭayati)).[1] Compare Hindustani جھورْنَا (jhornā) / झोरना (jhornā).
