From Khasa Prakrit [Term?] (compare Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀬𑀸𑀡 (ayāṇa)), from Sanskrit अजानन्त् (ajānant, not knowing), from the root ज्ञा (jñā, to know). Cognate with Punjabi ਨਿਆਣਾ (niāṇā) / نِیاݨا (nīyāṇā).
