Etymology[edit]

ठग (ṭhag) +‎ -ना (-nā), or derived directly from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀞𑀕𑀺𑀬 (ṭhagiya), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀞𑀕𑁆𑀕𑁆- (*ṭhagg-). Cognate with Assamese ঠগ (thog).
