Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘟𑘳𑘏𑘜𑘹 (dukhaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀤𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀔𑁂𑀇 (dukkhei), from Sanskrit दुःखति (duḥkhati). Cognate with Gujarati દુખવું (dukhvũ), Hindi दुखना (dukhnā), Sindhi ڏُکَڻُ / ॾुखणु (d̤ukhaṇu), Punjabi ਦੁਖਣਾ (dukhṇā) / دکھنا (dkhnā), Nepali दुख्नु (dukhnu).
