Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘰𑘽𑘐𑘳𑘨𑘜𑘹 (pāṃguraṇe), from Prakrit 𑀧𑀁𑀕𑀼𑀭𑀇 (paṃguraï), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀧𑀁𑀕𑀼𑀭 (*paṃgura). Related to पांघरणे (pāṅgharṇe). Cognate with Ahirani पंघरनं (paṅgharna).
