Inherited from Old Hindi बखान (bakhāna), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀯𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀸𑀡 (vakkhāṇa), from Sanskrit व्याख्यान (vyākhyā́na), from ख्या (khyā). Doublet of व्याख्यान (vyākhyān, “lecture”).
