Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀪𑀭𑀤𑀺 (bharadi), from Sanskrit भरति (bharati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰárati, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰéreti. Cognate with Marathi भरणे (bharṇe).
