Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Classical Persian میکده (may-kada, “(literally) house of wine, bar”). The first part of the compound is from Old Persian *𐎶𐎯 (*m-du /*madu/), from Proto-Iranian *mádu, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mádʰu, from Proto-Indo-European *médʰu (“honey, mead”), which is also the ancestor of मधु (madhu).
