Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit [Term?] (compare Maharastri Prakrit 𑀫𑀸𑀉𑀲𑀺 (māusi)), from Sanskrit मातुःष्वसृ (mātuḥṣvasṛ).[1] Cognate with Marathi मावशी (māvśī), Assamese মাহী (mahi).
