Borrowed from Classical Persian روانه (rawāna), from رو (raw), the present stem of رفتن (raftan, to go, leave). Compare Punjabi ਰਵਾਨਾ (ravānā) / روانہ (ravānā), Bengali রওয়ানা (roōẇana), Marathi रवाना (ravānā).
