From Proto-Indo-Aryan *HrináHti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HrináHti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃ri-né-H-ti ~ *h₃ri-n-H-énti, from *h₃reyH- (“to boil, churn”). Cognate with Proto-Slavic *rìnǫti, Old English rinnan (whence English run).
