Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Indo-European *weng- (to bow, bend). Cognate with Proto-Germanic *wankijaną, *wenk (to wink, nod) (whence English wink), Lithuanian vìngis (bow, crooking), véngti (to swerve, avoid) and Albanian vang (tire, felloe). Doublet of वङ्क (vaṅka, crooked).
