Borrowed from Classical Persian روزه (rōza, fast), from Middle Persian [script needed] (rōzag, fasting), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *ráwčakah. Compare Assamese ৰোজা (rüza), Hindustani रोज़ा (rozā).
