Inherited from Sanskrit आस्थापन (āsthāpana, “strengthening remedy”). Cognate with Hindi अथाना (athānā), Kachchi આથાણૂ (āthāṇū), Rajasthani अथांणुं (athā̃ṇũ), and Sindhi آٿاڻو / आथाणो (āthāṇo).
