Borrowed from Persian خرداد (xurdād), from Middle Persian 𐭧𐭥𐭥𐭣𐭠𐭲 (Hordād), lit. “perfection”; name of the fifth Amahraspand (divine deity) in Zoroastrianism, guardian of the waters.
