From Sanskrit त्रि (tri, “three”) ( + -ము (-mu)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian, from Proto-Indo-European *tréyes. Cognates include Latin trēs, Ancient Greek τρεῖς (treîs), and Old English þrēo (English three).
