Etymology[edit]
From ลูก (lûuk, “child; subordinate, subject; etc”) + หนี้ (nîi, “debt; obligation”).
Cognate with Lao ລູກໜີ້ (lūk nī), Northern Thai ᩃᩪᨠᩉ᩠ᨶᩦ᩶.
