Etymology[edit]

From วง (wong, circle; to encircle) +‎ พาด (pâat, to cast, lay, lean, rest (down, on, etc)), referring to the process of making such a stockade, which is formed by encircling a space with posts or stakes against which boards are rested for propping up.
