Pali[edit]
Alternative forms[edit]
The one word forms are of limited geographical distribution.
Etymology[edit]
Univerbation of နမော (namo, “salutation”) + တဿ (tassa, “to him”). The bond of the two parts is weak, and some would attribute it to vagaries in the new Pali habit of separating words with spaces, which is not a practice in the vernacular languages written in the same script.
Pronunciation[edit]
- (Mon pronunciation)

Contraction[edit]
နမောတဿ (namotassa)
- salutation to him
- နမောတဿ ဘဂဝတော အရဟတော သမ္မာသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓဿ
- namotassa bhagavato arahato sammāsambuddhassa
- Honour to him, the Blessed One, the Exalted One, the fully Enlightened One
- နမောတဿ ဘဂဝတော အရဟတော သမ္မာသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓဿ
Usage notes[edit]
The manifestation of this univerbation is not a universal feature, and would be abnormal in the Latin script.
