Etymology[edit]

(ca /ɕiəʔ/, to eat) + nominalizing infix -w-.[1] Compare also a Dvaravati Mon pair *caaʔ “to eat” : *cwaaʔ “flesh”, reconstructed by Diffloth (1984:263ff).[2][3]
