Etymology[edit]
From Old Georgian რაჭა (rač̣a). Further origin:
- According to Bedoshvili, from Svan რა̈ჭუ̈̂ (räč̣ü̂, “rabbit”).
- According to folk etymology, a compound of რა (ra) + ჭა (č̣a), referring to the terrain of the province.
- According to Shanidze, from the given name რატი (raṭi), the name of the first duke of Duchy of Racha.
