Georgian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from English Twitter.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /tʼvitʼeri/, [tʼʷitʼeɾi]
  • Hyphenation: ტვი‧ტე‧რი

Proper noun[edit]

ტვიტერი (ṭviṭeri)

  1. (dated) Twitter (forerunner of X)

Usage notes[edit]

Despite being renamed to X, many users continue to refer to the social network by its former name. Proper nouns, such as names of social networks are usually neither translated nor transliterated in Georgian, but rather left as it is. In case of need, the case endings or other type of suffixes are appended to them using a hyphen. However, in colloquial usage, such as online chats or posts they are almost always written with Georgian letters.
