From Russian хи́мик (xímik) +‎ -ოსი (-osi, hellenizing occupational suffix). Initial consonant adapted to ქიმია (kimia, chemistry). Corresponds to Armenian քիմիկոս (kʻimikos) and Greek χημικός (chimikós).
