Georgian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

According to Fähnrich,[1] from an earlier form *ქურთ- (*kurt-), from Proto-Kartvelian *kurt-, *kut-. Cognate with Mingrelian ქვირთუ (kvirtu, thief) and Svan ქუ̂ით (kûit), ლიქუ̂თერ (likûter, to steal). However Topuria considered Svan ქუ̂ით (kûit) a borrowing from Mingrelian, in which case only Proto-Georgian-Zan is reconstructible.
