Etymology[edit]

From Pali kappāsa, from Sanskrit कर्पास (karpāsa).The Sanskrit word itself is from Munda origin, and ultimately from Proto-Austroastatic origin (an interesting case of coming full circle!), which also natively yielded អំបោះ.
