Etymology[edit]
Possibly the continuation of a dialectal form whose original pronunciation could have been *[añcün]. Cognate with Jurchen ancu (“gold”), whence Manchu ᠠᠨᠴᡠᠨ (ancun, “earring”). Compare Proto-Turkic *altun (“gold”), Mongolian ᠠᠯᠲᠠᠨ (altan, “gold”).
