From Proto-Tai *keːmꟲ (cheek). Cognate with Thai แก้ม (gɛ̂ɛm), Northern Thai ᨠᩯ᩠᩶ᨾ, Lao ແກ້ມ (kǣm), Shan ၵႅမ်ႈ (kēm), Ahom 𑜀𑜪𑜧 (kaṃw), Bouyei jeemc, Zhuang gemj.
