Ancient Greek

Etymology

Probably a technical loanword. Often connected with the root of ἀκή (akḗ, “point of an iron tool”), but without any obvious reason. Winter connected it with κητήνη (kētḗnē, “vessel big as a sea-monster”), which could perhaps belong with κῆτος (kêtos, “sea-monster”) instead.
