Ancient Greek[edit]
Etymology[edit]
A parallel formation to ἥμῐσυς (hḗmisus, “half”, adjective). Usually seen as reflecting Proto-Indo-European *sēmi-tw-om, a thematisation of the tu-stem ἥμισυς (hḗmisus),[1] there is however contradictory evidence for -σσ- (-ss-) being the regular Doric outcome of medial *-tw-.[2] Compare Albanian gjysmë.
Noun[edit]
ἥμῐσσον • (hḗmisson) n (genitive ἡμῐ́σσοιο); second declension (Doric)
