Usage notes[edit]

As either a gender or chemical symbol, this character should display as a simple circle rather than as an emoji. Appending the variation selector ︎ will override emoji formatting. Technically, for 'oxygen' the font color should be set to red, ⚪︎, though it's not uncommon for that detail to be omitted. The old chemical symbol might instead by typeset with the full-moon character 🌕︎, depending on which better matches the size of other element symbols.
