Central Atlas Tamazight[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Berber, possibly from Proto-Afroasiatic. If so, cognate with Proto-Semitic *bin-, with a rhotacism found in its descendants, like Phoenician 𐤁𐤓 (br). Alternatively, the Proto-Berber word could be borrowed from the latter, with metathesis.
