Usage notes

[edit]
  • When written in kanji, this suffix is orthographically a prefix, due to the different word order borrowed from Middle Chinese.
  • See also usage notes of せる (seru).
  • (honorific suffix): Now only used for the Imperial House of Japan, and only with the verb ある (aru) and なる (naru). Other usages are often archaic or humorous.
