     彼(かれ)の側(そば)にはさらし粉(こ)が入(はい)ったバケツが三(みっ)つも並(なら)んでいた。イペリットのような皮(ひ)膚(ふ)に対(たい)して糜(び)爛(らん)性(せい)の毒(どく)瓦(ガ)斯(ス)が襲(しゅう)来(らい)したときには、その上(うえ)に撒(ま)いて消(しょう)毒(どく)するためだった。

     Kare no soba ni wa sarashiko ga haitta baketsu ga mittsu mo narande ita. Iperitto no yō na hifu ni taishite biransei no dokugasu ga shūrai shita toki ni wa, sono ue ni maite shōdoku suru tame datta.

     There were three buckets filled with bleaching powder lined up next to him. It was sprinkled on the skin to disinfect it when one is attacked with poison gases like yperite that are vesicant to the skin.
