Etymology[edit]

Coined by Chinese novelist and essayist Lu Xun in his essay 外國也有 (Foreign countries have it too).

外國人中國臭蟲西洋臭蟲 [MSC, trad.]
外国人中国臭虫西洋臭虫 [MSC, simp.]
From: 1933, Lu Xun, 外國也有 (Foreign countries have it too)
Wàiguórén shuō zhōngguó duō chòuchóng, dàn xīyáng yě yǒu chòuchóng. [Pinyin]
The foreigners say that there are many bedbugs in China, but there are bedbugs in Western countries too.
