Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Yeogeo yuhae (譯語類解 / 역어유해), 1690, as Early Modern Korean 구레나롯 (Yale: kwuleynalwos), from 구레 (gure, variant of 굴레 (gulle, (horse's) bridle)) +‎ 나룻 (narut, whiskers). Literally, bridle whiskers.
