Korean[edit]
Etymology[edit]
길 (gil, “street”) + ㅅ (-s-, genitive interfix; omitted from the spelling, but this causes the tense phonation of the following consonant) + 거리 (geori, “street”).
First attested in the Bullyu dugongbu si eonhae (分類杜工部詩諺解 / 분류두공부시언해), 1481, as Middle Korean 긼〮거리〮 (Yale: kíl-s-kèlí).
Pronunciation[edit]
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [kiɭk͈ʌ̹ɾi]
- Phonetic hangul: [길꺼리]
