Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Yeogeo yuhae (譯語類解 / 역어유해), 1690, as Early Modern Korean ᄂᆞᄅᆞᄇᆡ (Yale: nolopoy). Equivalent to 나루 (naru, ferry) +‎ (-s-, genitive infix) +‎ (bae, boat).
