Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Dictionnaire coréen-français, 1880, as Early Modern Korean 다ᄅᆞᆷ쥐 (Yale: talomcwuy), from Middle Korean ᄃᆞ라미〮 (Yale: tòlàmí, “chipmunk”) + (jwi, mouse, rat).

By surface analysis, 달음 (dareum, (dated) running) +‎ (jwi, mouse, rat).
