Etymology[edit]

Literally "money fish." Sino-Korean word from 전(錢) (jeon, money) + 어(魚) (eo, fish).

  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
