From 촌(村) (chon, “country”) + ㅅ (-s-) + 길 (gil, “road, path”).

- Phonetic hangul: [촌(ː)낄]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
