Etymology[edit]
Sino-Korean word from 환상(幻想) (hwansang, “phantom, illusion”) + 통증(痛症) (tongjeung, “pain, ache”).
Pronunciation[edit]
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈɸwa̠(ː)nsʰa̠ŋ tʰo̞(ː)ŋt͡ɕ͈ɯŋ]
- Phonetic hangul: [환(ː)상 통(ː)쯩]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
