Mycenaean Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₃ep- (to work, toil).

Alternatively, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₃órbʰos (orphan; servant, slave, worker). Compare Armenian որբ (orb), Latin orbus, and Sanskrit अर्भ (arbha). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)

Noun[edit]
